WHW 2019 - T Minus 1

Sunday

Scotland here we come!

Almost as soon as we crossed the border into Scotland the skies darkened and rapidly turned to heavy rain, not the start we were hoping for as we have another walk planned for today. We were fortunate that it just about stopped by the time we arrived at our destination. We have chosen a seaside route for today. OS describe it as one of their top 100 UK walks- Balcary Bay to Rascarrel Bay and back to the start just 4.76 miles today.

The weather was very grey, just about dry, 12 degrees C and a very fresh sea breeze (It is early June after all)! We decided to look at the positives to the situation.

Testing our all weather kit - we just about had it right with hats, gloves, waterproofs, fleece and sunglasses to keep the wind from our eyes.

We had the car park and the walk all to ourselves, benches free for coffee stops and admiring the views.

No midges.

It did actually stay dry whilst we were walking and our feet stayed dry. hopefully our equipment will hold up on the WHW.

The first part of the walk was inland and took across the headland to Rascarrel Bay but the return first along the beach and then up onto the cliffs back to Balcary was the most spectacular if a little scary at times. The cliff path was single track and in places very close to the edge, the wind was so strong you could barely stand, thank goodness it was blowing on shore - there were some big waves and a long way down!!!!

Our final destination is the village of Milngavie  (Pronounced Mulguye) which is the start of the WHW. The hotel is 10 minutes away from the start so we have been to check it out, I don't think we will be alone tomorrow, there are plenty of others looking at the way too.
