We were shocked and saddened to see that a walker was struck by lightening and was killed in the Scottish Highlands (about 40 miles from us) yesterday evening. We had been walking in T-shirts and there was no forecast of storms so it appears to have been a freak event. There was a torrential downpour whilst we were in the Tyndrum Inn last night.
Today is a relatively short day and generally downhill following a well made track through a wide glacial valley that has great mountain views. We were at the Bridge of Orchy by lunchtime, so had a drink in the hotel bar before walking another 3km to find a geocache (because we had plenty of time today).
We were given a very warm welcome at our B&B by Jackie and James, they asked us if we were carrying on to Inveroran? We looked at them blankly and replied we were staying here!!!! Apparently what often happens is hikers carry on another three miles to Inveroran and James picks us up in his LandRover and will return us to the same spot in the morning thus reducing an almost 13 mile walk tomorrow to around about 10 over Rannoch Moor. As the weather is good we set off again over the hill into the next valley. We really enjoyed this bonus walk but really saw the different weather systems at play, sun in one place and rain clouds running through another - glad we had our coats and waterproofs.
There were great views of Loch Tula, the area is part of the Fleming family estate (of James Bond fame) and the house that Skyfall was based upon.
We ate dinner at the Bridge of Orchy Hotel and sat next to the same guys from the USA we sat next to last night. Michael, Eric and Devon suggested we try a walking tour of Mont Blanc next time but rather put me off we the up and down nature of the tour.
We also met up again with our our friend from Belgium who we now know is Caroline, it was lovely to see her again, swap stories and compare midge bites! We are all doing the tour in 10 days which actually seems just right.
