The days are so long in Scotland at this time of year in fact we haven't encountered darkness yet! We were awake at 5.00 am and on our way by 8.30. First we had to retrace our steps to where we diverted yesterday to the Village and then a very pleasant walk through The Queen Elizabeth Forest, which was a gentle upward gradient warming us up for the climb to come.

We also got our first glimpse of Loch Lomand which will be our companion for the next few days. It seemed every few steps we were treated to ever more spectacular views of the lake.

The weather was kinder today and we got some blue skies and sunshine which meant we could remove some of the four layers we each were wearing especially when we had to climb the 350 meters to the top of Conic Hill.

The WHW passes across the Highland Boundary Fault where approx 400 million years ago  two tectonic plates collided one the North side the landscape is described as rugged and Highlands whilst to the South it is described as lowland, fertile and rolling hillside - we are now in the Highlands!!

The descent into Balmaha was harder on the joints than going up but we were enjoying the sunshine, lunch and a beer in the pub garden in T shirts (most unexpected).

We have finished early today so had a dip in the hot tub at our B&B.
