WHW 2019 - Day 1 - Milngavie to Drymen
Monday
12.5 Miles 6 hrs

We started today with a little apprehension of the 96 mile walk ahead, I had a little twinge in my knee after yesterdays walk, Colin hadn't slept well and it was raining!!!!! However we were not alone, there were many walkers at breakfast and by the time we left the reception area was full of bags awaiting transfer to onward accommodation. Scotland has certainly done a fantastic marketing job promoting the WHW.
Another photo opportunity at the obelisk and we are on our way.
Soon we were walking through a leafy Mugdock Country Park and the trees protected us from the worst of the rain which actually didn't linger too long although there was no danger of needed shorts or sunglasses today.
This stage is one of the longest but very fairly easy terrain much of it along a disused railway line but not too many spectacular views, the Way is giving us a gentle start, having said that it was great to reach the village of Drymen...
...and have a pint of Twisted Thistle in the Clachan - The oldest licensed pub in Scotland -1734.
The inn was so good we booked a table for dinner and that was before we found out it was just across the road from our room.
I just love this painting, it represents the youth of Scotland.
Great food, good beer and friendly staff, loving Scotland.
