Canada 2018 - Day 5 - Victoria to Whistler
Wednesday.
Today is a travelling day so we made an early morning trip into Victoria town centre to pick up breakfast and a picnic lunch before driving almost 100 km to the ferry terminal.
The ferry crossing was very thankfully very calm and we docked in Horseshoe Bay in North Vancouver around 1.00 pm.
Our first stop on Highway 99 aka the Sea to Sky Highway was at Porteau Cove, a picture postcard spot overlooking Howe Sound ( North Americas most southerly fjord), perfect for our picnic.
The drive was interspersed with fascinating scenery and our next stop was at Shannon Falls. The river plummeted over a 300 m granite cliff into the valley below, we can only imagine what it must be like in the spring with the snow melt!
We also had a "tantalising view" of the snow capped Mount Tantalus the highest peak in the area.
Our last stop of the day was at Brandywine Falls and this time we were at the upper level of the creek and watched the water plummet in front of our eyes.
After a long days travelling it was great to check into our hotel in the Olympic ski village of Whistler and walk across the Plaza to the Brewhouse for a couple of pints of IPA and dinner. The train in the bar and the "Sock Monster" in our room made us smile and a reminder of our families back home.
