Canada 2018 - Day 4 - Victoria
Tuesday
A beautiful sunny but chilly morning today which meant the harbour was stunning location for breakfast.
We opted for a 110 kilometre (each way) drive along the coastal highway today, a twisty road which offered tantalising glimpses of dazzling blue sea and seemingly endless pine trees.
First stop was at French Bay Provincial park where we went for a stroll along a pebble beach. We had a coffee sitting on a giant tree trunk that had been washed up on the shore.
We made Port Renfrew in time for our picnic before heading out on the Botany Bay Trail which led us through dense rain forest to the beach. The geology is absolutely mind boggling, there are ancient sedimentary rocks that have been uplifted and then covered by much younger sandstone. The rock pools are teeming with plant and animal life.
Almost as we were leaving the beach we spotted a pod of three Orca whales just off shore, what a treat.
Back in Victoria for a beer on the waterfront before dinner at Foo Food,- an Asian Street diner which was superb.
Loving Vancouver Island but heading back to the Mainland tomorrow.
