California 2017 - Day 1 - Home to San Francisco
Saturday
Route
A very early 05.00 start to our adventures. Straightforward taxi ride to Birmingham airport for our short flight to Dublin.
Strange to clear American immigration in Dublin but somehow we managed to skip the long queue although I was selected for additional security checks and pat down, fortunately I passed without a hitch.
The 11 hour flight seemed to drag on and on but was without incident and the taxi transfer to the hotel was almost seamless.
Our hotel Sir Francis Drake has a grand lobby although comfortable our room is quite small. It appears well situated next to Union Square and with a cable car stop right outside.
Local time on our arrival 4.00pm.
After a refreshing shower we changed into summer clothes and headed out to explore, yet the temperature had dropped dramatically, the wind had picked up and the fog rolled in so we changed straight back into warmer clothes.
We opted for Muni mobile tickets for a rapid transfer to Fishermans wharf on the icon'c SF cable car.
The ride was great but the destination a tacky tourist spot, not great for fine dining or anyone watching their waistline. We opted for a clam chowder and then headed back for some much needed sleep. The return journey was rather busier than the outward journey so the cable car resembled a sardine can!
