California 2017 - Day 9 - Yosemite National Park, Vernal and Nevada Falls

Sunday

Route

The car stayed in the parking lot today and we took the shuttle bus to the stop for the Mist Trail, these were the falls that we could see yesterday from Glacier Point.

We didn't really have a plan but it is an easy trail to the  bridge at the base of the Vernal Falls where we should get a great view of the waterfall.

It was a great photo opportunity and we decided to continue to the next level getting cooled by the mist in places as the water thundered down the mountain creating rainbows and spray. That's why it's called the Mist Trail!

Here we stopped for a coffee and as we were having a good time we decided to continue up to the Nevada Falls. This followed a steep  path and rocky steps, up and up and up but we made it to the top. It actually gave me the colly wobbles looking over the edge and was glad to hang onto the
railings.

The river looked benign before the falls and despite signs saying "There are strong currents and if you go over the falls you will die!" there were a group of stupid people bathing in the river.

We took a different route down the mountain which gave us great views of Half Dome and was actually a less rocky route but despite this Colin slipped on the sandy stones and grazed his leg, it's usually me that falls over and makes the ground shake but today it was Colin- twice!

It is impossible to describe the grandeur and scale of this place - it is awesome.

Stats: 15km walked with a 800m elevation
