California 2017 - Day 4 - San Francisco to Monterey
Tuesday
Route
It took 2 1/2 hours from when we entered the Alamo car rental office until we left the car park in an Ice White Ford Focus, not an ideal start to the day! However in did give Colin time to visit the SF Giant shop on Union Square to purchase the perfect Giants hat so it wasn't a complete waste of time.
Once we were out of the city and on the freeway the driving became less stressful and we headed for the Pacific Highway catching our first glance of the western Pacific coast line, last year in New Zealand we visited the Eastern coast line 6500 miles away - that's a lot of ocean!
We stopped for lunch at Half Moon Bay where we picked up a very good pizza which we ate on a picnic bench overlooking the harbour, unfortunately the fog rolled in and it was a bit chilly.
The road trip continued uneventfully to Monterey with a brief stop to watch some Pelicans diving into the surf.
Monterey is an old fishing town which was home to a sardine cannery, today there is a large collection of pleasure boats in the marina.
Still full from our pizza we opted for a salmon salad from the deli to eat in our suite tonight rather than eating out.
