California 2017 - Day 14 - Napa to San Francisco
Friday.
Route
We made an early start this morning with a drive to Mount Tamalpais State Park along the Panoramic Highway. We had great views of San Francisco skyline and the big blue ocean.
We walked along a trail for a kilometre or so to find a cache called Firestone, the booty was in the trunk of a burnt out car that must have rolled down the hill! I bet that didn't end well.
Beautiful weather today made it well worth the hike. however the tsunami warning siren going off was rather worrying! We hope it was a regular Friday 12 O'clock test? It's very low lying down below.
These birds of prey came to check us out and gave us a brilliant aerial display whilst the deer was much more shy and was happy we kept our distance.
Now we are really going back to the start in San Francisco stopping off at Golden Gate View Point Point for a great view of the bridge before we cross it and pay our toll.
Martin had recommended we take a look at Lombard Street while we were here so Colin decides to drive both up one side and down the crooked steep and narrow street (some say it is the most crooked street in the world) whilst I was absolutely terrified, closed my eyes, held on for dear life and wanted to be sick!!!
We completed our Jasmer Challenge yesterday but in order to get a badge for this we needed to find a Jasmer Challenge cache. The nearest one in the UK is in Leeds so we decided to drive a 70 mile round trip to find the original one in North California which seemed like a good idea at the time but Friday afternoon on the Freeway from SF was rather busy!
It was a relief to return the car to the garage on time and without damage, travelling a total of over 1,500 miles in 44 hours of driving.
After checking into our hotel we made full use of Happy Hour and indeed stayed in the bar for a very good steak dinner before getting an early night-we won't sleep much tomorrow.
