Milford on Sea 2017 - Day 2

A day spent exploring the local area, car stays in the carpark and we put on our walking boots.

The wind is less intense today so with the sun shining and white fluffy clouds in the sky we decide to leave the jackets behind - it is August after all.

The walk is along the sea wall actually a series of paths which form the Solent Way.

Keyhaven has a small harbour with a flotilla of boats bobbing around all reached by way of a ladder against the harbour wall.

The sunshine was warm, my jumper was tied around my waist and Colin was in shorts but there was trouble ahead, the skies turned black and we could no longer see the masts in Lymington marina, there was a rumble of thunder and around us we could see the rain hosing down, amazingly we only had a very brief shower where we found a very scarce tree to shelter under. We emerged pretty much dry and the sun soon came back to warm us up.

The Solent Way runs straight through Lymington Marina, a sheltered haven for some very expensive boats.

The Old Quay is picture postcard pretty and the perfect place to stop for a bag of chips and an ice cream.

Initially the plan was to walk the 5 miles to Lymington and catch the bus back to Milford, however after our pitstop we decided to make it a circular walk instead.

Another couple of rain showers took some dodging and sheltering under bushes and where possible a tree (even found a few blackberries).

Back in Keyhaven the tide has gone out and the boats are stranded in the mud. We have a wander around an art exhibition in the local scout hut and what a good decision this was, just as we were about to leave we had another cloud burst of torrential rain. We were able to stay dry and were rewarded with a rainbow.

Back in Milford we picked up our coats before a bracing walk along the newly finished promenade and concrete beach huts. This work was only completed in spring 2017 after the area was devastated in a storm in 2014.

An epic walk today 30,000 steps 21km.

Perfect end to a perfect day.
